Now that school has begun, and reality has set in, are you really ready for the days ahead? Parents of children who learn differently often find that their child’s situation drains them to the point of an inability to cope. There is so much to do. There are so many people to contact, so much to tell so that your child’s program works. You find that you are the EXECUTIVE FUNCTION of the whole family. Without you, who would orchestrate each event, supervise each moment? But, what if you get off balance?
Needing help to keep your own emotional balance is not something to be afraid of, nor is it something that should embarrass you. Parents often say that they are only given what they can handle. Are you sure about that? And who says that you can’t ask for help?
Some of you may have heard of a movement where learning how to embrace cognitive mindfulness gives strategies to cope. Getting in touch with your emotions, realistically identifying them and being able to control your reactions to them is a benefit that will last a lifetime.
With training, you can explore how ADHD, learning difficulties, sensory issues and other emotionally charged situations can impact your life. Discover your own strengths. Identify your own struggles. Become conscious how these impact you, define how you act, and maybe even make you hit that brick wall.
